The Greater Akron Aquarium Society

We are a group of aquatic enthusiasts in the Greater Akron, Ohio, area. Formed in 1952, the Greater Akron Aquarium Society (GAAS) is a non-profit, non-commercial organization.

GAAS members represent beginners to the advanced hobbyist with decades of experience and knowledge. We welcome the public of all ages to attend our meetings and events, with no obligation or pressure to join. All of our meetings and events are free and open to the public.

The goals of GAAS are (1) to promote the care, study, breeding, and exhibition of aquarium fish and related aquatic life and (2) to promote interest in the aquarium hobby.

A typical GAAS monthly meeting is structured to reflect the activities of a large, annual, aquarium hobby conference. Our meetings have a speaker or educational program, a product raffle, a judged bowl show, breeder award program (BAP) and horticultural award program (HAP) entries and awards, a mini-auction, and refreshments. Monthly meetings are held at the Ritchie Memorial Shelter House in Tallmadge, Ohio, on the second Friday of each month. Meetings start at 8:00 pm and are free and open to the public.

The Greater Akron Aquarium Society annually hosts a 55-Class, All-Species Show known—The Ultra-Aqua, which is held at the Tallmadge, Ohio, Community Center.
