For Swap Meet Buyers: A swap meet is where you can buy fish directly from the hobbyist who raised the fish. You can ask questions and typically pre-order the fish. There is no registration for the buyers. Admission is FREE to ALL. Free for anyone to walk in and buy fish or other aquarium supplies (from noon to 4 pm). Only the “vendors” pay a $25 fee to rent a table to sell their fish. The sellers will have their prices clearly marked. You are encouraged to contact the vendor to pre-order your fish. As a buyer, you can come and go as many times as you like.
For Swap Meet Vendors: Setup time for vendors will begin at 11:00 am. The Greater Akron Aquarium Society has 3 auctions per year in this building under normal conditions, and the location is well known by many hobbyists in the Ohio/Pennsylvania area. Table rentals are $25 per table. The city of Tallmadge has limited this swap meet event to 17 tables to allow for adequate spacing. The tables are normal 8-foot rectangular tables, and there will be padded chairs. The club plans on providing plastic table covers. To reserve your table(s)—first come, first reserved—please write a check made payable to The Greater Akron Aquarium Society and mail to Rich Serva, 5407 Celeste View Drive, Stow Ohio 44224 (email: rjserva@gmail.com). When the tables are sold out, we will have a notice on the website. Direct questions to the Program Chair: program@akronfishclub.com
Swap Meet—Odds and Ends Table for GAAS Members
For those GAAS members who have only a few items (limit of 3 items), GAAS will offer an alternative to renting a Swap Table so that hobbyists with fewer “must sell” items can also participate. The “Odds & Ends” items will be sold at a GAAS table at no cost to the seller. Here are the “Odds & Ends” Table Registration Form and Rules to participate in this method:
- Limit of 3 items from any seller (or household).
- No junk will be accepted.
- Seller will make 70% of the proceeds of the sale (just like an auction cut with 30% going to GAAS).
- Items must be clearly labeled with seller’s name and selling price.
- Fish must be bagged & clearly labeled with scientific or common name (no sick fish).
- Hard goods need to be marked as “working” or not and “complete” or not.
- Seller will fill out a registration form and a return envelope (if you expect to be paid).
- All items that are not sold by 3 PM become the property of GAAS subject to sale or disposal by GAAS.
- All sales are final.
- Payment by cash or check at the time of purchase.
